Mobile Medical service in Mumbai

Inspired by Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's Vision of providing free Medicare & Health for all, the Sri Sathya Seva Organisation ( Maharashtra & Goa) has launched the Mobile Medicare Project to reach totally free, quality primary Medicare to the poor & needy at their doorstep – in every district of Maharastra.The extremely vulnerable sections of society either due of financial constraints, escalating medicare costs and / or lack of availability of medical facilities / sources are unable to secure the barest of medical care.

A vast majority of illnesses can be nipped in the bud by providing timely treatment, thus preventing further complications, Such timely aid can provide immense relief on the hospitals and avoid costly treatment of later stages.Cost in setting up of primary health centres or dispensaries & clinics are prohibitive .The Mobile Dispensaries / units are viable alternatives and cost effect It is acknowledged by professionals in the medical and social service fields that priority should are accorded to PRIMARY HEALTH SERVICES, if millions of Indians are to enjoy better health..

The Mobile Medicare Units are holistic in nature and approach and seek to bring about improvement in the quality of the life of the slum dwellers and villagers, etc. To achieve this, various initiatives are being taken educate locals on various aspects of preventive health care,hygiene, sanitation, vocational guidance & placement, and value orientation.

Each Mobile Unit can attend to approximately 100 /150 patients per day and conservatively about 4000 patients monthly. The medical units will be visiting centers on a regular basis as per a fixed time table .The pilot project has over the last 14 months provided free medical aid to over 30,000 patients in the western suburbs of Mumbai city.The concept of free Mobile dispensaries is based on a simple Model, thus ensuring mass participation by our devotees, seva dal workers in the organization . Howsoever, its vision as envisaged under this project is highly ambitious and effective in terms of implementation, scale,approach, attitude & reach.

Friday, June 13th, 2008, was a memorable day in the history of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation of Maharashtra & Goa and especially for the city of Mumbai.Even though the monsoon rains had abated, the showers of Divine Grace poured profusely enabling one and all gathered at the Sachivalya Gymkhana in the heart of the Metropolitan city of Mumbai to revel in the Divine experience of Bhagwan's Omnipresence at the function of Dedication of 12 Mobile Medical Vans on Friday, 13th June, 2008 , a day blessed by Bhagwan himself.

In the midst of the monsoon season, the absence of rain was a clear indication of Divine Grace and a manifestation of Bhagwan's Divine Love for one and all. The function commenced at 2.30 p.m. with bhajans and was graced by important luminaries from the State of Maharashtra like the Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, who paidglowing tributes to Bhagwan's Mission and Work. The Chief Minister was deeply appreciative of the work of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Maharashtra, of undertaking the project of sending out initially 12 Mobile Medical Vans in different districts of Maharashtra.

He personally handed over the keys of the Medical vans to the 12 selected districts of Maharashtra and prayed that the 12 mobile vans are soon multiplied and become 108 medical vans, which can reach out to providing medical facilities, free of charge, at the doorstep of the afflicted and ailing. He further added that this project would be a great boost to the Government of Maharashtra and he was confident that with the Grace of Bhagwan, the project would scale great heights. It was his personal conviction that the monies donated to the Sri Sathya Seva Organization was always put to rightful use and passed through safe hands.

The function was also attended by Shri Ashok Chavan, Minister For Industries, who reiterated that Bhagwan has always been exhorting that pure drinking water, medical facilities and education must be available freely to all, especially the poor and needy . Shri Suresh Shetty, Minister For Health also lauded the commendable efforts taken by the Organization in providing free medical facility to the poor and sick.Smt Snehlata Deshmukh, Former Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University was appreciative of this project which will cater to the medical needs of women and children at their doorstep. Reknowned Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma also offered his gratitude to Bhagwan and expressed to the audience at large that only Bhagwan could inspire such a project of human amelioration .

The function was attended by more than 700 persons ,most of them were not members of the Organization and the function was a sheer manifestation of Bhagwan's Love and Grace and has generated great enthusiasm amongst all persons in Maharashtra, to render selfless seva. From reports received from the different districts where the mobile vans have reached their destinations in different parts of Maharashtra , it has been learnt that the medical vans have been received by the villagers with great agog and fanfare and the air was reverberating with loud cries of Jai Sai Ram! The villagers stopped the vans and performed mangalaarti of Bhagwan.

Thus, en-route, crowds gathered in front of the mobile dispensaries and sang words of praise and glory of Bhagwan In short, the atmosphere in the different districts of Maharashtra is one of festivity, marked with joy and love for our most Beloved Bhagwan.All in Maharashtra, from the smallest to the biggest, express their heartfelt gratitude to Bhagwan for showering His Divine Grace and Blessings and helping to make the occasion an unforgettable one in the annals of Sathya Sai Rajya..
